What should we bring? What shouldn’t we bring?

Our long-time listeners and followers already know that Desire Maya Pearl is our ‘happy place’. We go just as a couple and we also go to host big groups from the We Gotta Thing community. We even recently hosted Desire Maya Pearl’s first-ever Mansion take-over. Beyond that, we’ve gone on swinger cruises and traveled to other sex-positive and/or swinger-friendly resorts.

Bottom line: We can confidently say that we’ve traveled as swingers a lot in the past seven or eight years. But, at the same time, we remember how nerve-wracking it was that first time and we field questions from couples new to swinger vacations all the time. What seems simple at first—packing for a clothing-optional, sex-positive vacation—turns out to be pretty stressful, without some guidance. You’d be surprised how easy it is to max out the weight limit when you’re packing to wear nothing or next-to-nothing a lot of the time!

We thought we’d share in this story what we tell our followers and community members when they ask us what to pack for a swinger vacation.

Outfits You May Need

Although you will likely spend a lot of time at the pool in next-to-nothing or nothing, you definitely want to bring a bathing suit or two. Women at resorts often wear just the bottom half of a bikini. Bring casual cover-up outfits for going to meals that may require clothing, such as breakfast or lunch. Dinner is often a more extravagant affair, and you’ll want elegant dinner clothing for those meals, as well as the footwear to go along.

Theme Night Fun

For a lot of swinger couples, the majority of suitcase real estate goes to theme night costume attire. How elaborate you get with theme outfits is up to you, but it’s really not possible to overdo it, if you have the space in your bag(s). Don’t forget footwear for each costume/outfit.

Lingerie & Jewelry

You probably can’t pack too many lingerie options for a swinger vacation. This may be part of your theme night attire, too. The good news is that most lingerie takes up very little space in a suitcase. You probably won’t want/need a lot of jewelry, unless it goes with your theme-night attire.

Extras You Don’t Want to Forget

It may have been years since you used condoms as a couple, but you will want to have plenty with you for a swinger vacation. It’s also a good idea to bring lube, but make sure it’s in a checked suitcase and in a plastic bag in case it comes open while traveling.

Other items you don’t want to forget are pretty similar to a regular vacation checklist: sunscreen, sunglasses, chapstick, hair ties, toiletries & make-up bag, any medications you take regularly or may need, chargers for things like your phone and other mobile devices, and it’s not a bad idea to have gum and/or mints. You may drink more alcohol than usual and you’ll definitely be up late, so think about packing some powdered drink mixes to help you rehydrate and energize the next day.

Some couples bring lanyards with small pouches for ID, room key, etc., as most bathing suits do not have pockets for such things and it’s even tougher to find a place for those essentials if you go clothing-free!

About Traveling with Sex Toys

For many people, the idea of toting along intimate toys can cause anxiety. What if someone in TSA sees them? We say: What if they do?! Is it illegal? Nope. Is it against travel guidelines? Nope. Would you die of embarrassment? Nope. Is it likely you will ever see a particular TSA agent again? Nope. Are you adults, consenting, and is it none of their business? Yep, yep, and yep. If the TSA agent gives you a sly smile after screening your bag, smile right back.

Having said that, we do have a few tips for traveling with sex toys.

Remove the batteries and maybe discharge any re-chargeable toys so that they don’t accidentally begin to vibrate or make noise while traveling. Put them all in the same bag, and check it rather than bringing it as a carry-on. Do not forget to pack your sex toy cleaner, and put that in a plastic bag if the container might come open or burst from pressure. Whatever you do, don’t forget to pack the chargers you need, too!

Probably the most important things to bring with you on a swinger vacation are an open mind and the understanding that you don’t have to do or be anything you don’t want to do or be. You may experience playtime with others. You may just play together and make a lot of new like-minded friends. Don’t pack specific expectations, because that can set you up for disappointment. Pack an attitude of excitement and sexiness. Pack your committed love for one another. The rest will take care of itself.
